CASA of the Illinois Valley

Peru, IL — La Salle County CASA has announced an exciting new chapter in its mission to advocate for children in the child welfare system. As the organization expands its service area to include Bureau County, it will officially transition to a new name: CASA of the Illinois Valley. 

The expansion reflects the organization’s continued commitment to ensuring that every child experiencing abuse, neglect, or uncertainty has a trained advocate standing beside them. 

Since 2001, La Salle County CASA has served children and families throughout the region by providing trained Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) who work independently to gather information, speak up for children’s best interests, and help ensure their voices are heard in court and throughout the child welfare process. 

With the addition of Bureau County, CASA of the Illinois Valley will be able to reach more children and expand its network of dedicated volunteers throughout the Illinois Valley. 

“This expansion represents the next chapter in our organization’s story,” said Alexandria Wamhoff, Executive Director of CASA of the Illinois Valley. “Our goal has always been to make sure children facing difficult circumstances have someone committed to advocating for their needs. Growing our service area allows us to bring that support to even more children in our communities.” 

The organization is currently seeking community members interested in becoming CASA volunteers, as well as supporters who want to help sustain this expanded mission. 

CASA volunteers receive comprehensive training and ongoing support before being appointed to advocate for a child. No prior experience in child welfare is required, only a commitment to making a difference.

Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce supports CASA in a ribbon cutting at the new office location in Peru, Illinois. The location serves as a central location to both La Salle and Bureau Counties, allowing staff to more easily support the wider service area.
